[Phys-L] position announcement: project director for an NSF-sponsored Math Science Partnership

The University of Colorado at Denver and Health Science Center (UCDHSC),
seeks an established individual to assume the position Project Director of
the NSF - funded Rocky Mountain - Middle School Math Science Partnership
(RM-MSMSP).

The Project is beginning the second year of this $12.5M five year program to
enhance Middle School Science and Math teachers’ content knowledge and
teaching effectiveness. The project presently supports over twenty faculty
members from UCDHSC and other partner universities in the region, and has
completed the first of five Summer Academies for teachers in our seven
partner school districts. It is expected that in each of the next four
summers, the Academies will include over 300 Math and Science teachers
pursuing NCLB certification, and a strengthening of their content
background.

Minimum qualifications include having a doctoral degree in a STEM focused
area and a demonstrated ability to work with content faculty members on
similar types of projects. A strong commitment to quality teaching at the
K-12 and university level is expected and an understanding of the national
legislation and research effort driving this project.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience administering a
large federal grant, and displays the ability to work with a broad range of
individuals at the university level, K-12 level and relevant constituencies.
In addition, an interest in interacting with faculty and administrators
throughout the university and state is desirable.
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience, and will be pending final
agency approval. A statement addressing the candidate’s abilities to work in
such a diverse environment is required. Applications should also include: a
letter of intent, full curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements
and the names of at least three references. Review of candidates will begin
on December 1, 2005 and will continue until the position is filled.
