[Phys-L] Re: Stopping Distance

Sometimes I think there are more big rigs on the hwys around Salinas
than cars. Easily many more than a hundred move in and out of the
industrial area of Salinas each day during harvest. Salinas is surely
one of the larger world shipping centers for lettuce and other
vegetables. I'm now beginning to see rigs carrying grapes to wineries as
more and more of the formerly barren and pasture lands are covered w/ vines.

I posted before that one of the main ring roads is posted w/ NO JAKE
BRAKES.

About tail gating: we must have very polite and careful drivers; I've
never noticed tailgating xcpt between two and sometimes three trucks,
and then it's a few car lengths. I suspect this is OK as "they are in
the same boat". Often I make use of the very long distance between a
following truck and an auto' to slip in for a lane change; the truck
backs up even more.

bc, whose too lazy to call a trucking firm and ask the questions posted.

Some trucks also have engine brakes (or "jake brakes"), to help reduce
wear-and-tear on the brakes. See, for instance,
