I suppose degrees means steps "gradus ad Parnassum", always, so why not
just plane drop it. 20 C. or whatever F. is fine by me. Or am I
missing the point?

bc, who doesn't see the diff. between, for example, 20 C. and 100 V.
(volts).

p.s. or are you objecting to the "by" (multiply)?
