[Phys-L] The Climate of Man, the Arctic on the realities of global warming.

I highly recommend the series from the Annals of Science "The Climate of
Man". The first of three is in the current issue (April 25) of The New
Yorker.

As a non-climatologist scientist, I think it is quite readable by the
lay, yet complete and technically correct, including interesting science
history. As expected from The New Yorker, the Science is imbedded in
interesting narrative. The first concerns the moving to the mainland of
an island Alaskan Inupiat village about to be destroyed, because the
thinning sea ice no longer protects it from storms.

I was so excited by reading the first five (of about thirteen) pages
that I wrote the above. Skimming more I find it packed w/ interesting
Science, for example, to estimate the age of sea ice, lick it, and, of
course, why. Do read it, and I'm certain you'll recommend it to your
friends and expectantly wait for the other two parts.

bc, back in HS, book report writing.
