[Phys-L] Re: Two ways of refuting Einstein

I suppose here it is suitable to print another factoid about attempts to
refute "Einstein".

I happened upon the July and August 1938 issue of "Radio Digest",
wherein one of the cover articles is a description of Herbert Ives' *
attempt to prove the existence of the ether using high speed canal rays.

* of Ives and Briggs @ Bell labs. [I met Dr. Briggs @ UCSB where he,
retired, taught a course. On his desk was a Si or Ge xtal presented by
his colleagues at Bell labs]

This Cambridge researcher hangs his objections on a putative 10 ppm
variation in fine structure constant, as measured via quasars since the Big
Bang.

Oh yes, the Big Bang: isn't that the event where the speed of light is said
to have increased by several orders, for a while?

Brian Whatcott Altus OK Eureka!
