[Phys-L] Re: collision question

Put a cup off coffee on a sheet of paper lying on a table. Pull
the paper out from under the cup quickly. The horizontal forces
between the cup and paper are equal and opposite. The paper moves
a large distance, the cup hardly moves at all.

The interaction forces
operate over a common
temporal interval, but not necessarily over a common
spatial interval.
How are the spatial intervals different?
