Institutional Uniformity seems to be the over-riding concern for many
(most?) of these decisions.

A more subtle consideration is 'job security' and turf defence.
If fewer 'warm bodies' are required to maintain a particular platform

route. ;-)

Following the herd has always been the popular way.
It used to be said " Nobody ever got fired for specifying IBM (mainframes)"

Now the same can be said of MS.
