When push comes to shove I tell my students that mass like charge is
something that "stuff" has.

Hummm. What is meant here? "stuff has"?

Now someone will have to explain "stuff" -- and without using the word "mass."

And someone will have to explain "has." Is what is meant that "mass" is
something inside the "stuff"?
