| I'd like to ask your advice on what to write for physics
| departments on PER . . .[Physics Education Research]. . . My
| impression is that physics professors in Finland usually know
| very little about PER and do not have high respect for ideas
| coming from education departments . . . [the same is true of
| most physics faculty in most other countries, including the U.S.]. . .
|
This lack of high respect for education departments may be for good
reason . . .
However, one thing to remember is that a lot of the PER stuff is not
coming out of education departments; but is coming out of physics
departments; hence some of the emphasis on whether or not the "new"
methods actually increase learning.
