My favorite Snell's law mechanical analog is a self-propelled lawn
mower as it moves on and off a section of grass from or to a section
of paved sidewalk or driveway at some non perpendicular angle. The
assumption being that the drive wheel in the grass moves more slowly
than the one on the pavement. So this works both entering and leaving
a grassy area.
