U.S. PHYSICS OLYMPIAD TRAVELING TEAM ANNOUNCED

Five pre-college students and one alternate have been selected to travel
to Pohang, South Korea, to represent the United States in the 2004
International Physics Olympiad to be held July 15-23, 2004.
Congratulations to the finalists: Anson Hook of Princeton High School,
Princeton, NJ, Eric Mecklenburg of Hawken School, Gates Mills, OH,
Jeffrey
Middleton, LBJ High School, Austin, TX, Yi Sun, The Harker School, San
Jose, CA, Elena Udovina, Hathaway Brown School, Shaker Heights, OH. The
alternate is Daniel Whalen, Phillips Academy, Andover, MA. For more

AAPT AWARDS

Lawrence M. Krauss was recently awarded the AAPT’s most prestigious
award,
the Oersted Medal. The medal recognizes contributions to the teaching of
physics. Professor Krauss has made significant contributions to the
understanding of science on an international scale. He has written 10
books, and received the American Institute of Physics 2002 Writing
Award.
The next Oersted Medal will be given in 2005 and will include a monetary
stipend of $10,000, the recipient will also be one of the keynote
speakers
at the Ceremonial Session of the 130th AAPT National Meeting.
Nominations
are now being accepted for this and other 2005 AAPT awards. To nominate

FIND AND SHARE PHYSICS EDUCATION RESOURCES

ComPADRE (Communities for Physics and Astronomy Digital Resources in
Education) is a well-organized, digital collection of high-quality
physics
and astronomy educational materials. ComPADRE currently contains four
collections: The Physical Sciences Resource Center, The Quantum
Exchange,
The Nucleus, and Physics To Go. Two other collections in development
are:
The Astronomy Center (projected launch Summer 2004) and The Physics
Front
