I need help with Feynman quotations
(these were not included in Gaithers list of
quotations in <http://angelfire.com/tx/StatBook>).
The quotations are from Surely Youre Joking, Mr. Feynman; I have a Finnish translation from that book.
The passage starts in p. 40(the Finnish version) just
after Feynman explains his MIT experiences on studying mathematics. I translate from Finnish back into English:
I dont know whats wrong with people.
They dont learn by understanding. They learn
through some other way, by rote or something.
Their knowledge is so fragile.
And then Feynman goes on explaining how he asked
Einsteins assistant a question on relativity.
He concluds that story by saying (again,
my translation from p. 41):
Therefore this fragility is in fact common even among professionals.
Could someone provide the quotations with the exact reference?
Regards,
Antti
P.S. I hope that the lines dont appear to be too long.
I tried to follow Ludwiks advice by writing short lines.
