Are we talking about Dewey Dykstra? If so, he has been an inspiration for
me. Going to one of his workshops at the AAPT Summer Meeting in Boise
completely changed my teaching.


One solution would be to make sure that administrators have to work in the
trenches and teach courses on a regular basis.

Actually a lot of independent schools require that all their
administrators teach at least one section of something. Those schools
figure that it helps ground the administrators. A lot of the students hate
those classes, though, since the administrators tend to miss class often
and are frequently not the greatest teachers. After all, good teaching
skills aren't really the same skills necessary to be an administrator.
