Re: Online Testing

See the open source physics project at www.opensourcephysics.org. That
would be a great team to work with in promoting your java projects.

Online Testing

I have written a lot of software for exam and question banks in java
and online interactive web applications using java server pages (jsp)
and java servlets. I use xml to store my questions.

I have an online exam bank at:
http://www.quantumhyperspace.com/gfes/index.jsp
It has these features:
Online graded Exams
Online tutored Exams
Autogenerated Exams which you can either save or email
Automated question search capability
Question Viewer
Question Tutor
email option for exams or questions
No charges or fees.

I pay $25/month to get my site hosted on a server that runs the Tomcat
java servlet engine along with all the other stuff.

I am an instructor at a large nuclear power plant in Mississippi. I
developed this web application myself out of my own pocket for my
students that take training on power plant fundamentals (Reactor
Theory, Thermodynamics, and plant components). Operators are required
to take a special NRC administered 100 question exam on these areas
before they can start the control room operator and licensing phase of
their training. I found out that my web site was getting used by at
least a half dozen or more training facilities, even though I have
never promoted it.

If anyone is interested in on line software for physics teaching that
I could contribute, I would be happy to sponsor or start an open
source project
or initiative. What I need are ideas and help in designing the user
interfaces and how it ought to work, what students and teachers really
need.

Perhaps I could do something nice for the physics community from which
I graduated in 1975.
