I've been asked to come up with some reading material on a topic that is
discussable by college students in our honors program (all majors). The
topic can be anything from the last hundred years.

One topic that I thought might be interesting is the
necessity/wastefulness of manned space flight. Could anyone recommend
any
relevant articles?
