Re: High School Text Recommendation

The only book available in HS which is research based is Minds on Physics
(MOP), Leonard et al, Kendall/Hunt see:
http://umperg.physics.umass.edu/projects/MindsOnPhysics

Incidentally, there is no evidence that conceptual physics produces any
better gain on the FCI than any other book, including Active Physics.

Now in middle school or 9th grade Integrated Physics Science (IPS) has had
some research, and they are bringing out a physics volume.

Daniel,

I like "Conceptual Physics" by Hewitt for a conceptual based course.
There
are some vector notation problems in the workbooks but I usually have
students correct them as part of their homework/classroom assignment.

I agree with you about the textbooks. I have not found a high school text
book that didn't make me feel uncomfortable using it. They either do not
teach vector notation or teach it and then ignore it for the remainder of
the book.

If you happen to find a book you like, please let me know. We are getting
ready to select a new physics book for our school this year.
