Re: Nutation

I say right about the model. It's just an OVERLY simplified model.

The text diagrams are right, also Since they don't show any continents
or major ocean ridges, they just are not a model of the earth. How
about some planet with a 100% ocean and no major ridges?

So am I right in thinking that the modern theories include factors
that go _beyond_ the simplistic bulge theory - or do they actually
REPLACE to Newtonian Bulge theory??

Newton was looking for an explanation for the fact that near his home there
are two tides per day instead of one ( while the Sun passes over his home
once per day.) He found one. He concluded that the force in a location
maxed twice a day and that the ocean level followed the force thus there
would be two tides per day.

He was right about the force but wrong about the water.

And the common diagrams in texts are wrong.
