analog side. Does anybody know how accurate are
distance measurements on the analog side? What can
be done to reduce them?

I have seen typically 0.003m in resolution for SONAR rangers, and
there is a lot you can do to reduce noisy signals. Much has already
been
discussed here, a more detailed set of examples is in the PHYS-L
archives
