Some more thoughts arising from suggestions in this thread:
-float a wood disk on the water surface to reduce
loss in surface waves.
-Reduce the exciter coupling by moving it further away, holding
the microphone to column distance constant
--Vary the microphone distance, while holding the loudspeaker
distance constant.
-Increase the speaker cone compliance by driving it through a
transistor collector (not via an emitter follower which has the
opposite effect)
