Not sure I'm on the same page with the xylophone in helium simile
mentioned in the URL.
At the Museum of Percussive Arts at Lawton, they are happy to
demonstrate what removing a resonating tube does to a xylophone.
This arrangement seems quite like your vocal cord/throat model.
