Re: compact fluorescent bulbs

I converted most of my home lighting to compact fluorescents during the
California energy crisis more than a year ago. I used a mix of name
brands, GE and Phillips, and no name brands. So far, they all are going
strong. Our electricity usage dropped about 50% after the changeover.
I did notice that a few of the bulbs that have the heaviest usage now
take a little longer to come up to full brightness than they did when
they were new; however, the light output is not noticeably less.

if off brand means foreign, OK. Osram makes discharge lamps for
Chemists and Physicists. It appears they "own" Sylvania:

Welcome to OSRAM SYLVANIA, the North American
division of OSRAM GmbH - one of the world's largest
lamp and materials manufacturers.

Not so foreign?

The Phillips were rated ok. I don't remember the name of the brand
which was downrated, it was ".... of lights"? I don't remember when
the
report was, but it was less than 10 years ago. I have had good luck
with the Phillips which as I recall they said actually put out more
light than their rated output.

Which brand? I quit buying Osram since they seemed cheap and
