FREE Modeling Workshops & courses at ASU in July

High school teachers: YOU'RE INVITED TO ARIZONA!

Five tuition waivers are available for Modeling Workshops and other
graduate courses that start on July 7 at Arizona State University. Also
free apartment housing, and a stipend to cover travel and meals. Don't
delay!

* Modeling Workshop in mechanics (July 7 - Aug. 1)
Best for new physics teachers!
(led by Jeff Hengesbach & Kelli Gamez Warble)

* 2 Modeling Workshops in electricity (July 7 - Aug. 1):
microscopic models (led by Larry Dukerich),
modeling-adapted CASTLE (led by Richard McNamara).

* Modeling Workshop in physical science (July 7 - Aug. 7, 4:15 - 7:15 PM)
(led by Pat Burr & Lee Rodgers of So. Mountain HS in Phoenix)

* Integrated Physics & Chemistry (led by Prof. Bob Culbertson, with Joy Shrode)

* Matter and Light (led by Prof. Jose Menendez, with Rich Clawson)

* Spacetime Physics (taught by David Hestenes, AAPT Oersted Medal Awardee.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from a master, most likely!)

* Leadership workshop (1 credit, led by Colleen Megowan on 4 Friday mornings)

Modeling Instruction is recognized by the U.S. Dept.of Education as an
EXEMPLARY K-12 science program.

Courses are cutting-edge, yet practical. 165 teachers are taking our
courses this summer!

In summer 2002, 125 teachers (3/4 of whom don't have a degree in physics)
participated. They expressed high satisfaction!
They said:
"I learned a tremendous amount and am all fired up to teach physics this fall!"
"I learned more about teaching and physics this summer than in 5 years of
college!"
"It has given me a NEW way of looking at how light interacts with matter."

Teacher funding is available this summer and next, but less or nonexistent
after that. (We have very good family housing @ $11/day!)

Our web site has contact information on Modeling Workshops in several other
states, too.
