Re: What makes science powerful?

Here is an immediate short/quick first response, w/o looking at what others
have written:

Science is powerful because it has a built-in mechanism for self-correction.

Subject: What makes science powerful?

Today on a test I asked a question and I can already imagine
the discussion, comments and complaints that I will hear
tomorrow. The question is about a mile wide and perhaps a
mile deep. I was wondering if a few of my eloquent collogues
would be willing to give your best crack at a succinct
answer. So that I might share the ideas of several with my
class tomorrow. The question was...

"What makes science such a powerful tool as we try to
understand the world around us?
