Let's see if I can emulate Socrates.

Q1. Would it be correct to say that the length of a yard stick is 36
inches?
*** Yes! I have a yard stick here. It's length is 36 inches.
Q2. Would it be correct to say that the length of a meter stick is 100
cm?
*** Yes I also have a meter stick here. Its length is 100 cm.
Q3. Would either or both of the above be legitimate according to
the proposed definition?
*** I suppose that it depends on the word "legitimate". Are my
responses to the two above questions legitimate? If not, please
explain why they are not legitimate.

Thanks ... I'm not trying to be difficult, but I suspect that there
may be others on this list-serv that may be having the same
difficulty relating your Socrates analogy and legitimatcies to
the length of meter sticks and yard sticks..
