Re: Surface charge distribution

Hi,
This problem seems to me like a typical one for image charge: You have a
point charge q placed at r=D, and a shell of radii r=R (R<D) [the sell is
grounded], find the potencial and electric field .
if you try to solve this you will find a image charge inside the shell
OFF CENTER, and the distribution of induced charge IS NOT SYMMETRIC, I
think you could init with the analysis from the inner charge, find the
image charge outside the shell and after that the distribution of charge,
and this will be not symmetric.

Hello Everyone!

Need help with the following conceptual problem:

A conducting shell is initially neutral. A point charge +q is placed
OFF CENTER inside the cavity. Is the charge induced on its outer
surface symmetric or asymmetric? =20
