Re: Lazy?

The original context of this discussion was that students would not go to
the library and look up assigned materials. The word used to describe them
was lazy. If this is an accurate description, then many members of this
list are equally lazy. When definite references have been made to research
articles on the web, I get the impression from subsequent posts that most
members have not read them. One member even publicly stated that they
generally only look up references if available on the web, and do not go to
the library. In the old days that is what graduate students were for.

The term lazy is usually a description used by one person to describe what
they think is undesirable behavior in another. It can also mean resting as
in lazy summer days. (Summer days are lazy because they are hot and sap our
energy.) Often students are "lazy" because they are putting energy into
things they consider valuable and not into things they consider dull,
stupid, and unprofitable. Students who have jobs may not have time to do
some of the things that are assigned. Remember, we are in physics or other
science/math related fields because we found it interesting and in some
sense easy. Our students usually do not fit this description.
