Just a curiosity question:

A few years ago the green diode laser pointers were actually an IR
laser followed by a frequency-doubling crystal. They blinked at a
steady fast rate - to let the doubling crystal cool?

Are these newer ones flickering or steady. Sweep it across a surface.

Steady beam, but they still use a doubling crystal (or two) and say they'll
overheat if you leave them on for long periods of time. The website
explains their operation.
