Re: Why Physics First? Doubling-up

Here in Bluffton, Ohio, many students take a physical-science-type
course as freshmen, then biology, then chemistry, then physics.

There is a biology-2, and a chemistry-2, as well as an environmental
biology course. Students have to take 3 sciences. Poor students take
3, good students take 4, and top students take 5. At least one of the
three sciences must be physical science or chemistry or physics.
Therefore, some of the poor students take physical science, biology-1,
environmental biology. Others take PS, B1, B2 and others take PS, B1,
EB.

Those headed for college are encouraged to take at least PS, B1, C1,
Physics.

Those who take 5 sciences will take biology-2 and chemistry-1 as
juniors, or biology-2 and physics as seniors, or chemistry-2 and physics
as seniors.

My son, graduate of 2000, took physical science, biology-1, chemistry-1,
chemistry-2 & physics. My daughter is currently a junior, and so far
has done the same thing. She is in chemistry-1 right now. She says she
will take physics next year, and is still deciding whether she will add
chemistry-2 to that.

Is a second year of physics required? If students want a second year of
chemistry or biology do they double up on science their senior year?
