Re: corrupted mail

Other than the fact that Phys-L converts to plain text, the problem would
seem to be with certain email readers. No equal signs show up with Outlook
Express (and by extension Outlook--I assume). I would still turn off the
Rich Text however since some of the world is still in the stone age of
internet communications and the PC/MAC/UNIX worlds can't quite get their
acts together to _really_ standardize on a compatible way to allow formatted
text. We tested all this out a ways back in time here on Phys-L with a
special test server and sent fancy formatted stuff back and forth. We found
that fonts and sizes were especially subject to being misinterpreted by the
various operating systems.

This business of funny word-wrap with equal signs at the ends of the lines
really has me and my network administrator baffled. It seems to be an
interaction between our Microsoft Exchange system and the phys-l list
server. I've only seen it on one other list participant. Sometimes the
e-mails I receive from phys-l that were submitted by Tina come across that
way.

I also participate in a chemistry list and a lab safety list. The problem
does not seem to occur with message I send to those lists. At least no one
has told me about it, and my messages come back to me okay from those lists.
So what the heck is going on between Bluffton College and PHY-L?

Any ideas?
