I would say that the necessity of the RHR (or its equivalent) follows from
your decision to make the sense of the positive z vector dependent on the
senses chosen for the positive x and y vectors. No ( non WEAK) physical
result can depend on this decision, but you may choose to make your
intermediate math models thusly dependent . . . we typically do.
