That's interesting.

I remember the factor-label stuff as the only useful thing
I learned in HS chemistry.....

..... which is not meant to be a contradiction of what JC said,
but rather a reminder that sauce for the goose is not always
sauce for the gander.

The golden rule needs clarification:  Do unto others as you
would have them do unto you _in the same circumstances_.  We
must recognize that not everyone's circumstances are the same.

The way I teach is very different from the way I was taught,
even in areas where I was taught well.
