Re: Magnetic Monopoles

WITHOUT making this modification, I could build a simple perpetual
motion machine that generates lots of POWER!!!

Take vertical wire carrying a suitably large current thru it. Perhaps
a superconductor to make it REAL efficient.

Attach a bucket of monopoles to the end of a rod that is free to
rotate around the vertical current-carrying wire.

This bucket of monopoles will be accellerated around the wire by the
wire's magnetic field.
(Don't we ASSUME that a monopole will 'feel' a force equal to
polestrength times field strength?)

Hook this baby up to a generator and - poof- Enron is out of business!!!

(oh, is it any surprise that the Randy-Mac addition to the Maxwell
equations proposed below will add a retarding Electric Force on the
bucket of monopoles that exactly cancels the magnetic force of
acceleration??) i.e. the rotating bucket of poles will STOP the
current in the wire.

If a magnetic monopole were found, would Faraday's Law of induction
need to be adjusted?

Tina

Short answer, yes. Look at the modification of Ampere's law that Maxwell
introduced, i.e. he included the time-varying electric flux as a source of
magnetic fields along with current. Faraday includes the time varying
magnetic flux as a source of electric fields, so one would need to introduce
"magnetic currents" into Faraday's law to make it symmetric with the
extended version of Ampere's law .
