Re: Electricity costs

I was under the impression (seems to me from a friend who was in the
industry) that containment buildings are designed to survive the impact of a
commercial jet. Anyone know for sure?

Wow. Maybe I should move to Maryland. We are paying $.095/kWh here

I did move from Connecticut to Maryland (but not because of electricity
costs). The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company has a reasonably well run
nuclear power plant at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland which is the main reason
for
the low electricity cost throughout most of the state. On the other hand,
Northeast Utilities in Connecticut has managed to do a dismal job of
managing their nuclear power plants (I know because I still have shares of
their stock which is only now recovering). I believe this is one of the
main reasons why Connecticut electricity costs are high.

To make this more relevant to this physics list serve. Nuclear power,
when
well-managed, can be a benefit to society. I've felt this way for
sometime.
However, recent terrorist threats are a cause for concern. In Maryland,
the
National Guard has flown protective cover over Calvert Cliffs on at least
one occasion since September 11.
