The teacher isn't earning a years salary in 9.5 months, they are earning
9.5 months salary in 9.5 months. They do have the "luxury" of finding other
employment in those other 2.5 months (unless the employer forbids it as our
board of regents are trying to do in the current salary negotiations, some
fine print not mentioned).
I agree with the original comment, its not vacation, its a scheduled lay-off
period. And as in any job with scheduled lay-offs of months you are "free"
to find alternative employment during that period.
