The magnetic force is perpendicular to the total velocity,
but the total force is not.

Work is done. Work is done against whatever mechanism is
attached to the hinge to maintain constant current.

What is the force of constraint on a spinning electron? It has a dipole moment and a potential energy when it's in a magnetic field just as the electron revolving around the proton.
