Re: Self-inductance, a conceptual question

Why does Tipler write FLUX=N*B*A and not
FLUX=B*A?
Ludwik Kowalski

Flux1 = BA
Flux2 = NBA

For a coil of N turns, flux 1 is the flux per turn while flux2 is the
total flux linking the entire coil.

If you check different textbooks, you will find that some write
Faraday's law as emf = -N*dFlux1/dt --version 1
while others write
emf = -dFlux2/dt. --version 2

Personally, I favor Flux1 and version 1 of emf in the inductance
chapter, because I find that I otherwise tend to forget factors of N.
But in general discussions of Maxwell's equations and the like, I
prefer the more compact version 2 of Faraday's law.

But either way, the physics is the same. Okay? Carl
