The most important use of scales, as far Eskimos are
concerned, is to sell fish. Two summers ago I spent
a week in an elderhostel fish camp above the polar circle
(near Kotzebue, Alaska). Do you know how much were
fishermen paid per pound of salmon? Only 18 cents.

By the way, I strongly recommend elderhostels; at least
one (in a couple) has to be 62 or older to qualify. There
are programs for all tastes. Go for it; ask them for the
list of programs (1-877-426-8056, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET)
or check at: <http://www.elderhostel.org> I know it is
not physics but I like to share good things with friends.

What kind of wonderful scales do they have at the North Pole?
Why don't the Eskimos ship some of them down here??
