Speaking of Chabay and Sherwood, I suppose it's okay to mention now that they've accepted positions at NCSU right here in my home state. I'm very excited that I will be somewhat closer to their work.

Over the weekend, my students (well, some of them anyway...;-) ) designed and performed experiments to determine the number of excess charge carriers on a piece of sticky tape. All experiments led to the same order of magnitude! We'll be doing the experiment to estimate the polarizability of a carbon atom next week. Has no one here come up with that one yet? :-)
