I agree. I am not sure where the sun gets it energy if its core is
all Iron. In addition the solar lithium abundance is consistent with a
middle aged star. If it was made of leftovers from a supernova I doubt if
any of its lithium would have survived.
The standard model of the sun has only one flaw that I know of and
that is the low neutrino flux which seems to be resolving itself with the
evidence of neutrino's decaying. Not a model problem but particle physics.

I would reject this hypothesis as unworthy of serious consideration unless a
whole plethora of observations supported it and contradicted the standard
model, simply on the grounds that it makes of our sun an exceptional star.
While this is not impossible, all the evidence from observations of other
stars points in the direction of ours being unexceptional in all respects
except one: *we* are in orbit around it.
