Several members of the high school physics teacher preparation
community are embarking on an effort to create a new publication,
Journal of Physics Teacher Education Online. JPTEO
(http://www.phy.ilstu.edu/jpteo) is envisioned to be a "trade
journal" roughly on par with AAPT's The Physics Teacher. The purpose
of Journal of Physics Teacher Education Online is to establish a
forum through which the practical scholarship of teaching and
learning can be exchanged widely and built upon. The hope is to
support the development of new models of physics teacher education
that foster deep, meaningful, and lasting understanding, while
underlining the character of teacher preparation as a scholarly
endeavor worthy of recognition, support, and reward. JPTEO will be
published quarterly and disseminated online free of charge. Article
submissions are now being solicited for the introductory issue to be
published in June 2002. Complete details can be found on the
