By now some of you may have heard of the $20-30 million accident Monday
at the Super-Kamiokande detector in Japan. I had not heard about this
until it was brought to my attention today by a colleague from another
discussion list. It seems there was some sort of incident that imploded
over half their 11,000 photomultiplier tubes (at $3000 a pop) while the
12.5 million gallon water tank was being refilled following maintenance.
