Having students sketch the acceleration vector of a pendulum bob at various
places on its path is highly instructive. It always results in lots of great
student discussion. I've found that having them look at the vector as the
sum of tangential and radial components is very helpful. If you have access
to Interactive Physics, have your students build a pendulum and display the
acceleration vector while it swings. It takes less than a minute to set up.
