The main concern here is introducing contaminants that would give
misleading test results.

that the biggest concern would be microbe contamination from the
scoop. Also would Ziplock Freezer Bags be a good container? Or maybe
Tupperware Containers or the like? How should the container be prepared?

This Canadian URL gives a fair insight into sampling in a tidal environment.
250mL sterilised bottles seem to figure prominently.

Trouble with live samples - they don't store gracefully.
The process for land surface samples ought to be similar - though I
seem to recall some process of mixing spatially separated samples
and taking an aliquot.

(I assume the UFOs of interest are the tons of interstellar particles that
rain down daily?)
