Re: E. Fermi stamp

Re-examining my stamp and the photo Rick referred to, it seems that they
are both photos of Fermi standing in front of the same equations on the
same blackboard, but in different positions, and showing different parts
of the board-work. In particular the stamp photo completely cuts off the
LHS of the equation in error.

Rick,
Thanks for the info. But the picture at your URL:
http://www.pnl.gov/fermi/story.html
is not the one used in the stamp.
Note there is an extra "/" in your URL (after pnl).

The problem with the equation for the fine structure constant was
discussed in 1999 at
http://www.pnl/.gov/fermi/story.html

One can order a picture
http://webster.aip.org/history/esva/html/fermi_a16.html used for the
stamp or other Fermi photos through the Emilio Segre Visual Archive
(http://webster.aip.org/history/esva/)

Reasonably sized B&W .jpg and .gif images can be found on the internet
using the photo search option at www.google.com or www.alltheweb.com.
