LOL! How do we define the word "stuff"?

Would it be too circular if we were to say that "stuff" is "any entity
which can only be eliminated from within a closed surface by passing it
through that surface"?

So, is water not "stuff", since we can get rid of it by splitting it
into H2 + O2?
