Re: single-particle universe

At 10:30 AM 4/15/01 -0400, Robert B Zannelli asked:
Where does the inertia come from?

-- I don't know where inertia "comes from".
-- I don't know where electric charge "comes from".
-- I don't know where distance "comes from".
But I can survive without knowing.
As Uncle Ike said, "hypotheses non fingo".

It's my opinion that there may be a deeper understanding of inertia
possible and if or when we ever come to that deeper understanding we will
have learned a whole lot more about this Universe.

Agreed, a deeper understanding may be possible.

My point was that Mach's principle may or may not lead us to this deeper
understanding. My guess is "not", for several reasons, as previously stated.

And let me add that AFAIK, Mach's principle makes no falsifiable
predictions. So there's really no need to discuss it. Or am I missing
something?
