You're most welcome Bob.
Any time you want a confirmation that a dissipative
effect is not restorative, I'm your man.

Brian you have me a little confused here. I threw the question out because I
don't know all the implications of the explanation that John S. Denker was
kind enough to supply. John's post was very helpful but it raised questions I
thought I might get answered on this list. I actually expected he might
respond but I would welcome help from anyone willing to provide some. Your
curt reply was not very helpful except to tell me that I was wrong. However
you might notice from the tone of my earlier post I that I did not have high
a great deal of confidence is my analysis of John remarks. That's why my
remarks ended with a question. If your the man I am all ears. I'm on this
list to learn a little physics. If that isn't one of purposes of this list
then maybe that's all I will learn. In any case I did learn a lot from the
posts of John S. Denker and Jack Uretsky and no doubt there is plenty I could
learn from you. BTW you and others on this list probable don't care but there
are quite a few lurkers on this list who love physics but are afraid of
posting because they feel they don't know enough physics and/or are afraid of
being belittled. ( They have written to me privately) Now isn't that a shame
on a physics list populated by physics educators.
