MODELING WORKSHOPS NATIONWIDE:
Many Modeling Workshops in high school physics will be held this summer.
These peer-led workshops are 1 to 4 weeks long, and graduate credit is
available at most sites. Teachers are given model-centered course materials
in mechanics, and they rotate through roles of student and instructor as
they practice techniques of guided inquiry and cooperative learning.
Recently the U.S. Department of Education designated the Modeling
Instruction Program as an exemplary K-12 science education program. At most
workshops, in-state teachers receive financial support. For information,
