Re: Worrying about the long term (was Global Warming (NUCLEAR))

John's argument seems to say "we shouldn't worry about nuclear waste when there
are other problems like overpopulation."
Seems to me that is like saying "we shouldn't worry about cancer when there are
other problems like automobile accidents."
Nuclear waste is a problem. Overpopulation is a problem. Don't I have the right
to be concerned about whatever I choose to be concerned about?

I've heard this over and over: "We shouldn't spend money on X because Y is such
a problem." where X and Y are unrelated.

John: You worry about overpopulation, it's ok with me. I'll worry about nuclear
waste, hope it's ok with you.

It never ceases to astonish me that "the public" is willing to
worry seriously about how we would safely store nuclear waste for
tens of thousands of years, when they show virtually no concern
about the myriad, *far* shorter term, and likely devastating
effects of our current and ever increasing overpopulation.
