Call it vdW or whatever -- the darn things will COLD WELD if you wring the
air etc. from between them. This is one of those things that everybody
gets told about, but few people have ever seen demonstrated. The problem
is that it ruins a couple of expensive Joe blocks, and the owner thereof is
going to be really unhappy about it....

I have no reason to doubt that they will cold weld. I suspect you will
have to work pretty hard to wring the last little bit of air out.
